AHS holds Veteran's Day assembly

November 18, 2016

On Nov. 11, Alva High School celebrated with a Veteran’s Day assembly. The school had two people come and talk to the students about the armed forces and their own personal stories during the time that they served. The men that spoke were Allen ‘Skeeter’ Bird and Kyle Byrd.

“I think both of the speakers were amazing. They had some really good advice and it was interesting to hear their stories about their time serving our country,” commented junior Alaina Hurst.

When talking to some of the other students after the assembly, their views on this day altered a bit. The students finally understood what Veteran’s Day was all about and what it meant to some people.

“Some of these stories were kind of surprising. I mean, I knew it was hard for people to be sent off to fight for our country, but hearing their personal stories, I never would have guessed half of the things they went through just to keep us safe,” said junior Hannah Kornele.
