Tourism tax collections show significant decrease

The City of Alva Tourism Tax Committee is facing a significant decrease in available funds. With the fading of the oil boom and a subsequent downturn in use of the local motels and hotels, the amount of tourism tax collected has been dropping. The tax is levied on room rentals when people stay in Alva.

Committee Chairman Norville Ritter did some rough estimates while looking at financial reports Wednesday and said it looks like tax revenue is down about 29 percent from last year.
