Country club awarded only part of their tourism tax request

Alva Golf and Country Club President Steven Ward explains the impact of their facilities on the local community. He requested funds from the Alva Tourism Committee to help replace their swimming pool.

Steven Ward, president of the Alva Golf and Country Club (AGCC), presented a convincing description of the activities and benefits to Alva of his organization. However, members of the Alva Tourism Tax Committee said they received more public input on AGCC's fund request than any other topic in memory. In the end, the committee voted to provide about 20 percent of the group's request for replacement of the club's swimming pool.

The tourism committee met Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the council chambers of City Hall. With three members present, the committee barely had a quorum to hold the meeting....
