Stolen Colorado vehicle recovered in Woods County

A check on a vehicle parked by the highway led to the arrest of the driver for auto theft.

According to court documents, on Sunday, March 12, about 8:55 p.m. Woods County Deputy Sheriff Adam Honeyman pulled up behind a vehicle parked on the south side of U.S. Highway 64 facing eastbound. A check of the Colorado license plate revealed the 2009 Nissan to be stolen from Durango, Colorado.

Deputy Honeyman found a man sleeping in the back seat of the Nissan. He was removed and placed in handcuffs. The man, later identified as Alec Seth Machen, said, “This car is stolen. I stole it.”
