Northwest Oklahoma Genalogy Society

April 23, 2017

The Northwest Oklahoma Genealogy Society was given a tour of the NWOSU library on April 20. Shawna Gilbert, NWOSU librarian, introduced and showed the Tyler Room Special Collection. The Tyler Room is located on the second floor of the library. Ernest Tyler gave the university his personal genealogy research. His collection included college yearbooks, “The First 100 Years of Alva,” “Pioneer Footprints Across Woods County,” and many reference books and pamphlets. There were also large bound newspaper books.

Returning downstairs on the main floor of the library on the south wall were file cabinets with microfilm. Gilbert demonstrated how to use the microfilm. The library genealogy reference books were located on the bookcase shelving to the west of the microfilm cabinets.

Gilbert was most helpful and very informative about the library's genealogy research and collection.

NWOSU library hours are Sunday, 1 p.m. to midnight; Monday through Thursday, 7:45 a.m. to midnight; Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed on Sunday.
