Alva Mayor Kelly Parker met with Linda McCoy, Tulip Garden Club president, and Susie Koontz, Petunia Garden Club president, at Alva City Hall recently to issue a proclamation announcing the week of June 4 through June 10, 2017, to be National Garden Week in the City of Alva.

The Alva Garden Council, which is comprised of the Petunia and Tulip garden clubs, will celebrate National Garden Week by delivering fresh flower arrangements to local businesses. Representatives from each club will then select local yards and businesses to feature in the Council's summer projects – "Yard of the Month" and "Blooming Business of the Month."

In addition, each club will select one member's garden to be featured for promoting interest in gardening and beautifying the Alva community. If you would like to nominate an individual's yard or business this summer, you may contact members of the Alva Garden Council – Linda McCoy, Betty McMurphy, or April Ridgway – or send a message on the Alva Garden Council's Facebook page.
