A fun-loving dad

Dads are remarkable. They love their children for who they are but always challenge them to do their best. Dads realize they face an impossible task. They admit it from the start, but they willingly take on the blessings of fatherhood to nurture their children in the admonition of the Lord.

They aspire to be a “perfect dad.” They know they can’t pull it off but they give it their best effort. First, they know how to laugh a lot. They see the good side of life in spite of the problems and difficulties of life. Their laughter brings great joy and happiness to their children.

Second, they have a deep love for their children. They love their children even if they make mistakes. Their love for their children demands that they hold their children accountable for their actions and discipline them accordingly.

Lastly, they pray. They pray for themselves when they fail and that God will help them make up for their mistakes. They pray for guidance to “bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4). Most of all they want to see their children with them in heaven.

Dads know the secret of how to accomplish being a fun-loving dad: simply let God infuse them with His love and then they can love with the love of God. David said it well, “Sons are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from him” (Psalm 127:3). You know who one of the happiest people in the entire world is? A fun-loving dad. God bless you dads.
