Attorney General Hunter, Oklahoma Press Association to host open records seminars

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma Attorney General Mike Hunter will collaborate with the Oklahoma Press Association to host open records and open meetings seminars in six locations across the state beginning next Thursday, Sept. 28.

The seminars are free, open to the public and require no pre-registration.

Attorney General Hunter said the meetings will be a great way for the public or officials who are serving on local or state boards to ask questions and stay up-to-date on the state’s open record laws.

“These seminars will provide highlights to the most recent open-government laws in our state,” Attorney General Hunter said. “I strongly encourage everyone who serves the public attend these meetings and ask questions.

“I appreciate the Oklahoma Press Association for helping host these meetings. Transparency laws promote accountability and are some of the most important laws we have.”

The meetings were last hosted in 2014 and drew more than 600 attendees from state and local offices, school boards, public officials and residents.

The seminars will be from 1 to 4 p.m. on the following dates and locations:

September 28 – Ardmore, Southern Oklahoma Technology Center, 2610 Sam Noble Parkway

October 12 – Woodward, Woodward Conference Center, 3401 Centennial Lane

October 19 – Owasso, Tulsa Technology Center - Owasso campus, 10800 N. 140th E Avenue

November 2 – McAlester, Eastern Oklahoma State College, 1802 E. College Avenue

November 16 – Oklahoma City, Metro Tech Conference Center, 1900 Springlake Drive

December 7 – Altus, Southwest Technology Center, 711 W. Tamarack Road

Continuing Education Available

Attorneys who attend are eligible to receive continuing legal education credit hours.

School board members and superintendents are eligible to receive three continuing education credit hours from the Oklahoma State Department of Education.
