The car show is history

September 24, 2017

I had a great time and hope you did, too. Jack brought both his '63 Falcons, Cleo had her Ranchero and Justin brought his fire truck from California. All were hits with all that passed by. One of my more favorite cars is a '62 Olds Starfire. There was a beautiful black one at the show. When I quizzed the old guy sitting beside it he said he bought it new when he graduated from high school. Pretty cool.

Friday's free food was a hit. My burger could have cooked just a bit longer, but the brat was so good I didn't care. Someone told me the brats were homemade. If so, whatever the maker does in real life, they should give up their day job in favor of a food truck job. Cleo remarked she didn't have a very long wait for food, but she must have gotten there early because the line was backed up to the corner part of the time.

Sunday morning, Jack, Justin and I had breakfast at the eXtreme. It didn't look like as big a crowd as last year, but if you weren't there you missed a great meal. If Cleo boots me out, I am going to wait until the free food breakfast at the eXtreme to try to find another cook because everyone there is top notch.

Thanks to all that were a part of both these meals; you did good. Thanks to the sponsors, R.A.C.E. car club, the tourism board and anyone else that furnished time and money to make this a great event in Alva. I bet some of the club members walked 20 miles around the show keeping things moving along. Sneaky Pete's magic liniment for all.

I haven't written about anyone that has passed on for a while, not because they weren't important, or I didn't like them. If I wrote about everyone I should say the nice things I know about, I wouldn't have room to gripe or keep the City Fathers honest.

A special man, Rodney Mustard, passed away this week. To newcomers to Alva that never had AC or heating problems, Rodney was the guy you would call. There are now and have been in the past other repairman, but when asked who to call, Rodney's name came more often than not. He would drop everything to help anyone, anytime. If you could not pay, he would help anyhow. Thanks for all your years of service and help to the people of Alva, and God bless his family, because they lost a great man.

Also, thanks to all the car enthusiasts for taking the time to travel to Alva, or get your local car out of hiding to show them off. See ya next year, Lord willing and the crick don't rise!

Cleo said I told my fire truck joke (in honor of Justin's firetruck). to everyone that passed. You get to hear it one more time. A blonde calls the fire station and tells the guy that answers her house is on fire and could he come and put it out? Well, how do we get there? he asks. Well, DUH, drive the big red truck!

See ya at the homecoming parade.
