Volleyball Sweeps Langston

LANGSTON, OKLA. – The East Central University volleyball team earned a non-conference sweep at Langston, 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-23).

The Tigers (6-17) were paced by senior Madeline Mayer, who tallied 12 kills and five block assists. Junior Breanna Waldoadded five kills, three digs and three block assists, while freshman Sydney Dungen earned her seventh double-double of the year with 13 assists and 10 digs.

ECU earned the win by out-blocking the Lions (4-19) seven to three and earning 10 more kills (37-27).

In set one, the Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 advantage and led from start to finish. ECU pushed the lead out to as many as eight before claiming the 25-17 win.

The second set was much closer, with seven ties and four lead changes before a winner could be determined. The final tie came at 18-all, when the Tigers used an 8-1 run to push through for the 25-19 victory.

The final set was again a battle, with 10 ties and four lead changes. The fight went all the way to the end of the set, with the final tie coming at 22. ECU then went on a 3-1 run to claim the 25-23 win.

The Tigers will now return home to the Kerr Activities Center to face Arkansas-Monticello (Oct. 20/7 p.m.) and Southern Arkansas (Oct. 21/2 p.m.) over the weekend. Saturday's match is the annual Senior Day where ECU will honos its seven seniors before the start of the match.
