While many young people are eager to leave their familiar communities to explore the world, Drew Cunningham has a different outlook. He has recently returned to Alva to practice law with his father, Rick Cunningham.

"I love this town and always have," says Drew.

While continuing his education, Cunningham experienced living in a metro area. That experience was good, he said, but "a small town where you know people is really hard to beat."

Cunningham graduated from Alva High School and continued his education at Northwestern Oklahoma State University (NWOSU) in Alva. After receiving his bachelor's degree in business administration, Cunningham attended the University of Oklahoma College of Law. His main interest and focus was in family law and criminal law with an expectation of returning to his hometown.

In July of this year, Cunningham sat for the Oklahoma Bar exam. He received word in September that he had passed and was sworn in Sept. 26.

Since his return, Cunningham has been busy setting up his office at 409 College Ave. on the west side of Alva's square. His name joins that of his father on the window. He said he wants to get involved in the community now that he's settled in. He has already participated by singing during the Night in the Northwest program in September. Besides his singing, Cunningham likes to spend his leisure time watching sports and playing sports.

Cunningham is the son of Rick and Janet Cunningham of Alva. Rick is a longtime attorney in the community. Janet is president of NWOSU. Drew is the youngest of their children. His siblings are Brett, Allison Zimmerman and Tanner.
