One driver went to the hospital and the other was arrested following a two-vehicle collision in Alva on Oct. 13. The wreck occurred at 7:24 p.m. at Ninth and Flynn.

According to the report by investigating K9 Officer John Caviness, Jeffrey Allen Madden, 29, of Alva was backing a 1995 Dodge pickup from a parking area and struck a 2017 Buick LaCrosse driven by Donald Rawson, 88, of Alva. Rawson was westbound on Flynn at the time.

Both side airbags on the Rawson car deployed, and there was considerable damage to the side. At first Rawson refused medical treatment but a short while later he complained of abdominal pain and was taken to Share Medical Center by Alva EMS.

Caviness learned that Madden had an outstanding Woods County warrant from 2015, and he was taken to the Woods County Jail. Madden was also issued citations for improper backing and failure to insure vehicle.

A witness at the scene told Caviness the pickup was backing out toward the west going pretty fast and slammed into the right side of the car. The witness reported seeing the car jolt and the airbags deploy. The driver of the pickup immediately pulled back into the parking space and walked over to check on the driver of the car.
