Tigers Split Season Openers

BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Ouachita Baptist women's basketball team (1-1) traveled to the Southwest Baptist Classic this past weekend, taking on Northwest Missouri State (0-2) and host school Southwest Baptist (2-0). The Tigers took its first game of the classic 68-54 over Northwest Missouri State while falling to Southwest Baptist on Saturday, 83-73.

In Friday's win, Ouachita held Northwest Missouri State to shooting just 29-percent from the field, 40 total rebounds and 18 points in the paint. The Tigers, meanwhile, hit 44-percent of their shots while gathering 48 rebounds and 50 points in the paint.

Madison Brittain led Ouachita with 13 points and three assists, followed by Chasidee Owens who closed out the regular season opener with 11 points and a team high eight rebounds. Jakyya Clay and Eden Crow also finished in the double-digits for points scored with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Against Southwest Baptist, the Tigers hit 39-percent of their shots, but were matched by the Bearcats in shooting percentage and outrebounded 47-42.

Shakyla Begnaud and Taylor Bowles led the way in scoring for Ouachita with 15 points each. Bowles also led the Tigers with four assists while Owens picked up 11 points and led the team with seven rebounds.

Morgan Miller gave the Tigers four players with double-digit points scored, closing out the non-conference game with 13 points.

The Tigers will be back in action this Thursday, Nov. 16 as it opens up conference play at Southwest Oklahoma State. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Weatherford, Oklahoma.
