The Eagle Times: A world out of our reach

November 16, 2017

The year is 2117; I see the buildings are sky high with trash blowing around and all over the ground. My eyes and nose burn from the atrocious smell. As I look around for the source of the smell I wish I had never let my eyes wander. I see many people fighting over food and many kids with hunger in their eyes. I notice a lot of sleeping bags and thrown together shelters along alleyways. The lucky people were able to keep a house, but most of them still go to bed hungry from the lack of food production. Most of the population has an immune disease that can't be cured because of the poor medical field. The 22nd century is a time of gloomy hatred towards the people who caused hurt to their precious country.

The country is in turmoil from the last world war; the war did not occur on United States soil, yet the war took a toll on the country as a whole. I see many people rioting against the wrongs done to them; while other people loot storefronts. The streets are quiet, and any noise I hear is broken glass crunching below my feet. When I find a store that actually has stocked shelves, I think I hit gold. I notice that many people have put their trash on the edge of the street, but chances are it will be scattered by the end of the day. The wealthy citizens are the only people lucky enough to have trash to put on the streets. They can afford some food along with a few mundane items. The world is a long way from the beautiful place it once was. There aren't rural areas anymore. People had to up and leave for the city to survive. Many people don't have a family anymore, but the young are taught to thrive in these horrendous conditions. Many young children still attend school until they decide to drop out to help their family.

I suddenly wake up in my warm, comfortable bed to the smell of my father's cooking in the year 2017. I remind myself of the awful dream I dreamt, and I see the faces of people losing hope and the faces of starvation. Many people are dragging the world down a gigantic trash chute and nobody is prepared for the outcome that's bound to come.
