Hillcats Fall Twice on Second Day of UCO/OC Festival

EDMOND, Okla. – Rogers State softball ended its two days at the UCO/OC Festival with two losses against Washburn and East Central on Friday at the Broncho Softball Field. The Ichabods defeated the Hillcats, 11-6, and the Tigers scored two late unearned runs for a 2-1 win in the finale.

WU 11, RSU 6

Washburn built an early 8-0 advantage and hung on for the 11-6 victory in the first game of the day for the navy and red.

Lacie Myers of WU started the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning. The Ichabods lead grew to 4-0 in the third inning on a two-RBI double by Savannah Moore and a RBI double by Myers. After WU added a run by stealing home, Moore knocked out a three-run homer to left for the 8-0 margin.

Merissa Smith doubled to left to plate two runs for RSU in the fourth inning for an 8-2 score. After one run by WU, Smith, Tailee Reding and Danelle Day totaled RBIs to pull the Cats to within four at 9-5 after six innings.

The Ichabods added two more runs, and Reding drove in the final tally of the game for the 11-6 score.

Smith posted a 2-for-4 performance at the plate with three RBI.

Alex Brake started in the circle, going 4.0 innings. She allowed eight runs on 11 hits with seven strikeouts. Sierra Skaggs pitched 3.0 innings and gave up only one run on two hits.

ECU 2, RSU 1

In game two, East Central totaled two unearned runs in the fifth inning to take a 2-1 victory over the Cats.

With the bases loaded in the third inning, Day put RSU up 1-0 on a fielder's choice that allowed Katy Taylorto score from third.

ECU, however, posted two fifth-inning runs to get the 2-1 win. With runners on the corners, a fielder's choice drove in one run to tie the score at 1-1. Later in the inning with runners on the corners again, another fielder's choice allowed the winning run to score for the 2-1 score.

All three runs in the game were unearned as the two teams combined for five errors. RSU committed four errors in the contest.

Andrea Morales went 5.0 innings in the circle and totaled four strikeouts with six hits allowed. She didn't allow an earned run, however, two unearned runs scored in her time in the circle. Reding went one inning in relief.

Angel Stoker went the full 7.0 innings for ECU, allowing only three hits.
