Southeastern Splits Action at Edmond

EDMOND, Okla. – Southeastern opened day two of the Edmond Region by rallying for an extra inning, 5-3 win over Northeastern State, before closing out the event with a 3-1 loss to Oklahoma Christian in Edmond, Okla.

The split moved the Savage Storm to 4-7 overall on the season with a Feb. 17 twinbill at Newman in Wichita, Kan., next on the schedule.

Symphoni Shomo, Elexis Watson and Mykaela Wallaceeach posted two hits, with Destiny Riddle, Sydnee Hinkleand Kennedy Salyers each turning in one.

Wallace drove in a pair of runs, including a homer, while Riddle, Watson and Hinkle each drove in one.

Kelsey Story collected the win after tossing a complete 8.0 inning contest and allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits with five strikeouts.

NSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning.

The Storm got one back in the third on a Riddle RBI single that plated Salyers to make it 2-1.


The Riverhawks tacked on a run in the bottom of the third, but a Wallace solo homer in the top of the fourth would again close the gap to one run at 3-2.

Hinkle would knot the game in the top of the sixth with an RBI single to score Marilyn Maas and make it 3-3.

The game would head to the eighth and Watson would put the Storm in front with an RBI double to score Karsyn Brigance, and Wallace tacked on an insurance run with an RBI single to drive in Watson for the 5-3 lead which held to be the final.

Hinkle collected a pair of hits and finished 2-for-2 at the plate, while Shomo, Keeshia Thompson and Brigance each added a hit.


Shomo recorded the team's lone RBI.

Emily Cudd tossed 4.2 innings in the start, allowing three runs, two earned, on nine hits with three strikeouts.

Story tossed one-third of an inning in relief and Riddle wrapped up the contest with an inning of work.

OCU opened the contest with a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but SE would answer with an RBI single by Shomo in the third to plate Hinkle and knot the game at 1-1.

The Eagles, however, would get one-run doubles in the fourth and the sixth to go up 3-1 which would prove to be the final score.
