Officers seize gun, drugs in Cherokee

A lengthy list of items was seized from a residence in Cherokee after a search warrant was executed on Wednesday, Feb. 14. Law enforcement officers listed 63 separate items as evidence.

According to court documents, officers from the Alfalfa County Sheriff’s Office, Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics Drug Task Force participated. Deputy Gary Mast knocked and announced “police search warrant” several times at the front door. After a reasonable amount of time elapsed, officers breached the front door and entered.

Inside the residence in the 800 block of South Grand, officers found Brian Ottesen, Lance Garrett Leslie and two juveniles. The girls, ages 14 and 16, were identified as the daughters of Leslie. All were detained and escorted to the living room area.

Among the items seized was a 3-1 Stoeger Cougar 8040F .40 S&W pistol, numerous items of paraphernalia and suspected methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana.


The men were arrested and transported to the Alfalfa County Jail where they were booked on numerous charges. The two juveniles were released to the custody of the Department of Human Services.

The residence is within 2,000 feet of Ira Hill Park and the Good Shepard Daycare in Cherokee.

Bryan Scott Ottesen, 41, of Cherokee has been charged with three felonies: (1) possession of controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute within 2,000 feet of a park or school, (2) child neglect, and (3) possession of firearm during commission of a felony. The first charge is punishable by imprisonment for four years to life and a fine of up to $40,000. The second is punishable in the custody of the Department of Corrections not exceeding life imprisonment or by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year, or by a fine of not less than $500 nor more than $5,000, or both such fine and imprisonment. The third is punishable by imprisonment for two to ten years.


Ottesen is also charged with two misdemeanors: possession of controlled dangerous substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Lance Garrett Leslie, 41, of Cherokee is charged with two felonies: child neglect and possession of controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute within 2,000 feet of a park or school. He is also charged with misdemeanors of possession of controlled dangerous substance and
