February 25, 2018

The Patchwork Friends OHCE group met for their regular meeting on Feb. 8 at the home of Barbara Cue. President Joanne Prewett called the meeting to order and led the group in the flag salute. Devotions were given by the hostess from a devotional book called “Footprints.” Roll call was answered by the members present to “What are your favorite salad toppings?” Those answering were Dottie Gatz, Anita Nolan, Dee Mason, Barbara Cue, Doris White, Joanne Prewett, Liz Kinzie, Maureen Thomas and Janice Litton.

Gatz read the minutes of the last meeting and after one correction they were approved. Mason gave the treasurer's report. Pennies, dimes and nickels were collected. Business conducted included the Achievement Night event on Feb. 26 at the Woods County Fairgrounds. Patchwork Friends and Grow and Share OHCE groups will co-host. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. with the business meeting starting at 7 p.m.

The next leader's lesson will be “Oklahoma State Parks – Staycations” on Feb. 22 at 1:30 p.m. in the Woods County Courthouse. The OHCE Northwest District Meeting will be held at Langston University on March 16.

The group reviewed the fair items in the new OHCE Handbook and picked projects to make for their 2018 fair booth.

A sewing day was held on Saturday, Feb. 10, at the home of Liz Kinzie to make mastectomy pillows, which is a state project.

The lesson was given by Prewett on “Salad Essentials.” She asked the group to name some of their favorite salad ingredients. It was agreed that iceberg lettuce is mostly water, so it is better to use darker vegetables, like spinach. A handout was given to each member with recipes.

A mini-lesson was given by Kinzie on an app on your phone you can purchase for $2 that will help you draw a picture of your dog, yourself, etc. She showed the group her pictures on her phone. She also did a mini lesson telling the group about her Leap into Health class that is held at the First United Methodist Church at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday nights. Everyone is invited to attend.

There was no other business and the meeting adjourned. The hostess served chocolate cake to the group. Aleta Nolan won the door prize. The next meeting of the group will be at the home of Prewett on March 8.
