No. 7 Lady Muleriders combine for 19 runs to complete series sweep of Northwestern Oklahoma; Trahan tosses complete shutout in finale

Alva, Okla. – After combining for 19 runs on the final day of the series, the Lady Muleriders were able to complete the GAC series sweep over the Northwestern Oklahoma Lady Rangers on Saturday afternoon with a 9-3 decision in game one and a run-rule in five innings in the series finale, 10-0.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS & HAPPENINGS

In the top of the second inning the Lady Muleriders befitted from an error and a bases-loaded walk to take a 2-0 lead before the Lady Rangers knotted the score in the bottom-half of the frame with a bases-loaded walk followed by a sacrifice fly that made it 2-2.

Southern Arkansas regained the lead in the top of the third, 3-2, after Maeson Grace put a ball in play that scored Faith Otts.


Northwestern Oklahoma stranded three runners over the span of the next three innings as the Lady Muleriders were able to capitalize in the sixth with four additional runs to take a 7-2 lead.

The first run in that frame came in the form of an RBI single off the bat of Hallie Saintignan that plated Godoyo who reached base earlier in the inning on a single to right field.

Rachel Miller sent a sacrifice fly out to centerfield that plated the second run in the frame before Brooke Goad would come to the plate a batter later and clear the bases with a 2-run shot over the right-center field wall that pushed SAU to its 7-2 advantage.


A solo homer flew off the bat off Marina Duran in the seventh to add to SAU's score followed by an RBI single through the left side from Saintignan extended the lead to 9-2 before NWOSU added a run in the bottom-half of the frame that brought the score to its eventual 9-3 final decision.

IN THE CIRCLE

Victoria Taylor pitched her way to her twelfth win in the circle this year for SAU and allowed three runs on seven hits in the contest with five strikeouts.

Madison Garza suffered the loss in the circle for the Lady Rangers after allowing nine runs on nine hits through six innings pitched.

AT THE PLATE

Miller, Goad, and Saintignan each tallied a pair of RBIs apiece in the contest

Duran, Grace, and Godoyo each added an RBI

Duran and Saintignan were both 3-for-4 at the plate

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS & HAPPENINGS

SAU jumped on the board early in the top of the second and took a 3-0 lead after loading the bases with three consecutive singles to load the bases for Godoyo who drove in the first run on an RBI base hit to left field.


Sarah Pitre and Rachel Miller each connected with RBI singles after that to push SAU to its 3-0 advantage in the second.

Neither team scored over the next two innings until SAU drove in seven runs on six hits in the fifth to put the game away, 10-0.

Miller led off that inning with a bunt single and was later drove home on Goad's RBI single to center field.


With the bases loaded, Grace drew a 6-pitch walk that plated the second RBI in the inning and the next five runs in the frame would come via singles from Pitre, Saintignan, and Miller to push SAU to its eventual 10-0 final decision in the fifth inning.

IN THE CIRCLE

Trahan picked up her second win of the season in the circle for SAU and did so without allowing any runs on a pair of hits in five innings pitched.

Starting pitcher for NWOSU, Karly Murray, suffered the loss on the mound with ten runs given up on 13 hits in the contest.

AT THE PLATE

SAU combined for 10 runs on 13 hits in the contest

Miller, Pitre, and Saintignan each tallied a pair of RBIs and a run scored

Miller led the offense with three hits and following her was Duran, Grace, and Pitre at two hits apiece

Goad, Otts, Saintignan, and Godoyo each registered a hit in the game
