Golden Suns finish third at Central Super Regional, advance to national championships

 


ST. CHARLES, Mo. – After beginning the day in fifth place, the No. 24 Arkansas Tech women's golf team carded its lowest score of the tournament to earn a third place finish at the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Central Super Regional Championships Wednesday afternoon at the Missouri Bluffs Golf Club in St. Charles Mo. to advance the Golden Suns to the NCAA Division II National Championships.

The Suns ended the Central Super Regional Championships with their best round of the tournament as they shot a combined score of 294 (+6). This score is also the second lowest round Tech has shot this season. The Golden Suns final overall score of 902 is the second lowest 54-hole tournament score in school history. Passing the Suns score of 903, which they set last year in the NCAA Division II Central Super Regional Championships in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Peerada Piddon led the way for Tech as she finished the final 18-holes of the tournament with a score of 68 (-4), which is not only tied for the lowest round shot by a Golden Sun this season, but was also the lowest individual round of the entire Central Super Regional Championships. Piddon shot a team-high six birdies in the third round and ended the tournament with a tournament-high 13 birdies. Piddon finished with a final score of 219 (+3), earning her a tie for second place. Piddon's score of 219 is tied for the fifth lowest 54-hole tournament score in school history.

Avery Struck carded the second lowest round of the day for Tech as she finished the final round with her best round of the tournament with a 73 (+1). Holly Standing fired a 76 (+4) and Pia Nunbhakdi shot a 77 (+5) as they both finished the Central Super Regional Championships tied for 24th.

The Golden Suns will travel to Houston, Texas for the NCAA Division II Women's Golf National Championships being played at the Bay Oaks Country Club from May 16-19.
