JANE KATHRYN SMITH

Jane Kathryn Smith (Barham), daughter of the late Douglas A. and Edna Josephine Barham (Gibson), was born in Norman, Oklahoma, on September 30, 1934. She passed away in Alva, Oklahoma, on April 20, 2018, at the age of 83 years, 6 months and 21 days. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Jane grew up in Alva, graduating with the class of 1953. After high school she attended Northwestern, taking art classes. On September 5, 1959, she was united in marriage to Donald Parker Smith in the house she grew up in. To this union two daughters were born: Kathryn and Kelly. She was a stay-at-home mom and enjoyed taking care of her daughters. Jane was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Alva. She loved spending time with her three grandchildren. She also enjoyed going to Holder Drug to visit and drink coffee, and eating at the Taco Village, which was her favorite place to eat. She really liked their tacos. When she was able to go to the restaurant, Tyla Brown, one of the owners, would always make sure Jane was taken care of and would have someone carry her tray to her table. Jane was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Douglas D. Barham.

Jane is survived by her husband, Don, of the home; two daughters, Kathryn McGuire and husband Pat (Woodward) and Kelly Benson and husband Bennie (Alva); three grandchildren, Keri Pannell and husband Billy (Alva), Ericka Beaty and husband Kris (Woodward), and Ryan McGuire (Tulsa); five great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Matthew, and Rowen Pannell, and Lakin and Kaitlyn Beaty. She is also survived by two sisters, Nancy Crane (Catoosa) and Gail St. James and husband Jim Fleetwood (Oklahoma City); and four nieces, Lynn Barton, Julie Clear, Stacy Peoples, and Amy Connor.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Alva.
