Food, friends and prizes add up to museum fundraiser
June 21, 2018
If you take good food, good company and awesome prizes you will have the makings of a great evening. That is what happened last Friday evening at the Freedom Museum's yearly fundraiser. This year marks the fifth annual dinner (i.e. salad supper) and it raises the necessary funds to keep the museum's expenses paid.
Patrons pay $10 to attend and then purchase tickets to enter a raffle for different donated items. With the price of admission one sits at a well-decorated table and enjoys a buffet of brisket, ham, potatoes, salad and dessert. There is plenty and no one leaves hungry.
Each table was sponsored by area merchants that included Freedom's The Store, Dacoma Co-op, Alva/Freedom State Bank, Stansberry's Welding and Friends of the Museum, BancCentral, Concho Energy LLC, Community Bank, Cargill Salt, Woods County Abstract and McMurphy Farms.
Tables were decorated in this year's theme: Oklahoma Pride. Themed tables included "Oklahoma Agriculture and Oil" (decorated by Sandy Wimmer & Cindy Bliss), "The Sod House" (decorated by April Decker), "Oklahoma Casinos" (decorated by Sharon Walker and Chris Gagnon), "Cargill Salt" (decorated by Stephanie Meyer and Cindy Galemore), "Pioneer Woman" (decorated by Paula McMurphy), "Indian Heritage" (decorated by Charla Turner), "Oklahoma Weather" (decorated by Lola Thompson), "Frankoma Pottery" (decorated by Sandy Wimmer), "Fire Stations: Anderson Creek Fire" (decorated by Dixie Stansberry) and "Sonic Drive-in" (decorated by Judy DeVine).
Over 20 items were raffled off. The items were donated by merchants of Freedom, Alva and Woodward. They included gift certificates, merchandise and baked goods. Donors included The Pioneer Woman, Holder Drug, LaDeeDa, Western Equipment, Foote's Farm Supply, Alva Co-op, Washburn Auto, Northern Chophouse, Cargill Salt, Sweet Things, Louise Darr, Dixie Stansberry and more.
