Alfalfa County officials reappoint Karen Armbruster to EMS board

February 14, 2024

Alfalfa County officials attended the ACCO Legislative Breakfast for the Spring CODA Conference. Pictured from left are Jennifer Roach, Alfalfa County assessor; Senator Roland Pederson; Nate Ross, Alfalfa County District 3 commissioner; Laneta Schwerdtfeger, Alfalfa County clerk; Tammi Miller, Alfalfa County court clerk; Kelsi Claflin, Alfalfa County treasurer; Garret Johnson, Alfalfa County District 1 commissioner; Penny Huff, Grant County treasurer; and Representative Carl Newton.

The commissioners of Alfalfa County had a lot of paperwork to sort through this week. Nate Ross, Mike Roach and Garret Johnson took care of the usual orders of business – the maintenance and operation warrants for payment and blanket purchase orders – and then spent some time opening up a huge stack of sealed paperwork that came in for six-month bids. They ensured each was notarized and filled out correctly and accepted them but held off on awarding any, pending review.

The three men also signed a safety incentive warrant for the emergency manager and moved on to declare a surplus of a few items. Those were a Milwaukee reciprocating saw (invoice number SJ9 330-100, no serial number); a Hale pump, hose reel and hose (invoice number SJ9 420-100.02, serial number HPX200); Hale water pump with engine (invoice number SJ9 543-100, serial number HP2Q0X); and Relm radio (invoice number SJ9 602-100, serial number 729A42800). They signed resolutions for the disposal of all listed items.

The next thing on the agenda was supposed to be a call from an AT&T business representative named Mark Beshara, who wanted to talk to the commissioners about switching the first floor sheriff's office back to AT&T, but County Clerk Laneta Schwerdtfeger said she hadn't heard back from Beshara. No action was taken.

Ross, Roach and Johnson went on to sign more paperwork: the agreement for Correctional Communications Services and also the Commissary Services agreement, followed by the monthly state auditor and inspector reports of the Alfalfa County treasurer for October and November of this year.

Lastly, the three men signed off on the EMS request to reappoint Karen Armbruster as an EMS board member for a five-year term to expire in 2028.
