Bridge2Hope aims to extend helping hand to Woods County people in need

April 26, 2024

Bridge2Hope, an initiative birthed from the collaborative efforts of the Alva Ministerial Alliance, is a beacon of hope for those grappling with financial hardships in our community. With a diverse board representing key sectors including finance, education, health, farming and business, Bridge2Hope aims to extend a helping hand to individuals in need, empowering them to transition into the middle class – defined as 200 percent above the federal poverty line.

At the heart of Bridge2Hope's mission lies the vision of providing comprehensive support and resources to uplift individuals facing financial distress. The group hopes their efforts are not confined to a single location but serves all of Woods County as funds allow, ensuring that no one in the community is left behind.

Bridge2Hope is seeking funds to support the current goal of purchasing the former Faith Center Church at 324 College Ave. in Alva, which they say will serve as a central hub for delivering essential services and support. Bridge2Hope works to create a welcoming space where individuals seeking financial assistance can find solace and guidance. The facility will not only serve as a point of contact for those in need but also as a collaborative space, where local churches and state nonprofit organizations can come together to pool resources and provide holistic support to the community. Through partnerships with these entities, Bridge2Hope will offer a range of services, including financial counseling, educational workshops and access to vital resources.

Inspired by successful initiatives such as Core Community, led by Sheryl White of the Alva Church of God, and Youth Core Ministries under the leadership of Deborah Factor, Bridge2Hope is committed to building upon proven models of community empowerment. Deborah Factor's presentation on April 30 will showcase the tangible impact of such initiatives, highlighting success stories and statistical evidence of individuals who have transcended poverty with the support of similar programs.

By extending a hand up, rather than a handout, Bridge2Hope seeks to foster lasting change in the lives of individuals and families, while strengthening the fabric of Woods County. As the group embarks on this journey, they invite the public to join them in making a meaningful difference in the lives of "the least of these" in our community.

Bridge2Hope invites the public to join them April 30 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at 818 Diner in Alva. For a tax-deductible donation, people can give to the Alva Ministerial Alliance or their own church with “Bridge2Hope” in the memo line. Once our 501(c)3 is established, the group will be able to take direct donations.
