Suns sweep Puerto Rico-Mayaguez

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns tennis team (10-4) bounced back from a tough loss at No. 25 Florida Southern with a 9-0 sweep in straight sets over Puerto Rico-Mayaguez at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. Thursday morning.

The Golden Suns will close out their Florida trip with a Friday afternoon match against Palm Beach Atlantic (9-7) at 4 p.m. in the USTA National Campus in Orlando.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Suns started out strong, going 3-0 in doubles play, including a pair of 8-0 sweeps by the No. 2 pair Haeleigh Long and Kami Ward as well as the No. 3 doubles team Vandella Suico and Maria Vlaskina.

Long and Vlaskina sealed the victory, winning the No. 4 and No. 6 singles matches to take a 5-0 lead.

Suico, Ward, Tamara Bell and Teresa Sanchez completed the straight-set victory in their singles matches to finish the 9-0 sweep.
