Do we pay for what we have done?

A few years ago, I was walking out of a church when a man said to me, out of the blue, “Well, I know we all have to pay for what we've done ...” I don't know what he was talking about, or what specifically was on his mind, but it struck me that this is exactly the way many people think: that we all have to pay for what we’ve done.

In the world of man, yes, you do have to pay for what you’ve done. If you break the laws of the state, the agents of the state will make you pay. If you punch someone in the nose, you’re liable to get sued and you’ll have to pay. In the physical world, whatever you s...
