Fans of the sport of horse racing know that Belmont Park – located just outside of New York City – is one of the premier racing venues in the United States.
Every year the track hosts the Belmont Stakes – one of the three races (along with the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness) that make up the sport’s “triple crown.”
Moreover, in addition to “flat track” races, Belmont at one time held steeplechase competitions in which horses negotiate courses containing hazards like fences, hedges and puddles of water.
