NW Riders fun run raises nearly $5,000 for Christmas toys

A large crowd of motorcycle riders assembled Saturday morning, Aug. 26, in front of the Radio Shack store in Alva. The group, NW Riders and Friends, conducted their 7th annual Christmas motorcycle Fun Run for Children. The registration fees collected from each participant will go into a fund to buy Christmas toys. Several trophies will be given to the bikers, but those were donated or sponsored by local businesses. The ride started at about 9:30 a.m., and the last rider was to be back in Alva at 4 p.m. at the Moose Lodge.

The NW Riders' seventh annual Christmas toy fundraising fun run raised $4,800. The money originated from participation fees.

The winners in various categories include:

• Longest Distance – Karl Thiessen and Diana of Claremore

• Rider: High Hand – Ethan Feidler

• Rider: Low Hand – John Vickers

• Passenger: High Hand – Marilyn Corr

• Passenger: Low Hand – Jilisa Jackson

• "I Tried" – Todd Fink

• Youngest Driver – Chucky Knight (age 17)

• Oldest Driver (completing the route) – Tim Warren (age 70)

• Kid's Choice – Blake Brown

• Best of Show – Chris Orr
