The Alva Board of Education called a special meeting at noon Monday for a two-item agenda. The first was to accept the resignation of board member Steve Ellis. Jane McDermott, vice-president, ran the meeting in Ellis's absence and said, "We accept this resignation with mixed emotions. Steve was a very dedicated and professional board member."In his letter of resignation, he said he had served on the board for 12 years. The board will likely appoint someone to fill Seat 1 until the February school elections. Then that person, or other candidates, will compete to fill the unexpired term.
