Street projects nearing completion

The Alva Street Department spent Tuesday and Wednesday applying a smooth layer of asphalt to Seventh Street between Flynn and Choctaw.

The larger street maintenance and repair projects require warm temperatures. Alva City Manager Joe Don Dunham told the Alva City Council Monday that season is coming to an end. So far the city has spent about $150,000 of the $213,000 budgeted for streets in the fiscal year 2017-2018.

Dunham said he's become aware of a couple of possible grant opportunities that could help the city with future projects so he wants to reserve the remaining $63,000 for possible grant matching funds.

Meanwhile the street department is finishing up asphalt work on Seventh Street. He said the city has agreed to pay...
