October 27, 2017

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Junior forward Jake Simpson netted two goals as the Rogers State men's soccer team cruised to a 3-0 win over Oklahoma Christian on Thursday night (Oct. 26) at Soldier Field with strong wind gusts.

The win was the first in five games and ended a two-game losing streak for RSU. The navy and red improved to 7-7-3 on the season and 4-5-3 in the Heartland Conference. The Cats have found tons of success at Soldier Field this season with a 5-1-1 record at home.

Simpson, a junior from Cambridge, England, tallied the first two goals of the game to put the Hillcats up 2-0. He scored the game-winning goal after a perfect through ball from Noah Robson allowed Simpson to tap in the goal in the 20th minute. Simpson added his second goal, his team-leading fifth of the season, in the 69th minute when a deflected shot from Jaxon Pitt came right to Simpson and he knocked in the goal for the 2-0 lead.

RSU poured on one more goal in the 78th minute when Callum Hubble registered his first goal in the navy and red. He scored off a cross from Kevin Kwarteng for the 3-0 score.

Playing with the wind in the first half, the Hillcats doubled up the Eagles in shots at 4-2. Even going against the wind, the Hillcats continued to hold control of the contest with a 9-6 edge in shots. For the 90 minutes, RSU posted a 13-8 advantage in shots. The Cats put six shots on goal.

Senior Cody Gammill registered three saves in 90 minutes for his third shutout of the season. The Frisco, Texas product moved to 5-3-1 on the season.

The Hillcats end the season with Senior Day on Saturday against Newman. Start time is set for 1 p.m. at Soldier Field with coverage available on the Hillcat Network at http://www.rsuhillcats.com/live.
