Jones' big game guides UAM Hoops over CSP

Russellville, Ark. — The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team officially began the new season with a win at the GAC/NSIC Challenge over Concordia St. Paul, 97-88.

UAM STATS

Tyrin Jones: 26 points, 4 steals

Derylton Hill: 23 points, 5 rebounds

Cobe Goosby: 21 points, 5 assists

Karim Mawuenyega: 14 points, 4 assists

FIRST HALF

This match-up saw each program battling back-and-forth throughout the opening half as the score was tied up at 26-26 midway through the game.

UAM began to separate itself after multiple free throws by Troy Thomas and a three-pointer from Jarred Heard put the score at 37-30 in favor of the Weevils.

Arkansas-Monticello would hold a double digit lead at the half with a Derylton Hill lay-up that gave the Weevils the 51-41 advantage.

SECOND HALF

The Arkansas-Monticello lead went on to stand for the entire second half as the Weevils held off the Golden Bears for the 97-88 victory.


UAM shot 53.1 percent during the half, along with totaling eight assists and 13 rebounds as a team to help seal the opening season win.

UP NEXT

The Weevils will take on non-conference foe Minnesota-Crookston on day two of the GAC/NSIC Crossover Challenge on Saturday, November 11 in Russellville, Arkansas with tip-off set for 6:00 p.m.
