November 12, 2017
JOPLIN, Mo. – Trailing Missouri Southern by one point at the end of the opening quarter, SWOSU Women's Basketball slowly pulled away from the Lady Lions and went on to win 84-70 and wrap up their stay in Joplin at the GAC/MIAA Crossover.
After failing to score in double figures in the season opener, Hailey Tucker bounced back to put up her first double-double of the new season with 24 points and 12 rebounds. SWOSU received another all-around effort from the starting lineup with Tyra Aska adding 21 points for her second consecutive 20-point performance and Hayden Priddy who posted 16 points of her own on the afternoon.
MSSU hit back-to-back three pointers to close out the first quarter and lead SWOSU after 10 minutes, but from there the Dawgs outscored the Lady Lions in each of the remaining three quarters.
SWOSU followed up its 42.4% shooting in the first half with an even better 50% clip in the second half. The Lady Dawgs led by as many as 17 midway through the fourth quarter and went on to win comfortably by 14.
The Lady Bulldogs (2-0) will now turn their attention to conference play when they host a pair of Arkansas schools next week. SWOSU will welcome Ouachita Baptist on Thursday (Nov. 16) and Henderson State on Saturday (Nov. 18) for the first two league games of the season.
