Lady Tigers Drop GAC Opener

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The Ouachita Baptist women's basketball team (1-2, 0-1 GAC) fell 68-66 Thursday evening at Southwestern Oklahoma State (3-0, 1-0 GAC).

After falling behind 33-23 at the half, the Lady Tigers fought back to gain a 50-45 lead at the end of the third quarter. Ouachita outscored the Bulldogs 27-12 in the quarter, led by 17 points from Chasidee Owens, Madison Brittain and Taylor Bowles.

The Lady Tigers hit nine of 16 shots from the field to open the second half and four of seven 3-point shots. Ouachita came out of the half hot, hitting its first five shots and narrowing its deficit to just four points.

Ouachita continued its strong play with a 12-2 run to close out the quarter. Bowles pushed the Lady Tigers in front by five, toward the end of the quarter, with the team's fourth made 3-point shot of the period.

Shakyla Begnaud gave Ouachita its largest lead of the night with just 4:42 remaining in the contest. Begnaud pushed the Lady Tigers in front 60-50 with a made layup before the Bulldogs used an 18-6 run to take the conference opener by two.

As a team, the Lady Tigers shot 43-percent from the field and held Southwestern Oklahoma State to shooting just 32-percent. The Bulldogs, however, hit 21 free throws compared to Ouachita's nine.

Bowles and Brittain led the Lady Tigers with 18 and 11 points, respectively. Bowles also finished with three rebounds while Brittain collected three assists and a block.

Owens led the way in rebounds with 10 while also dropping in nine points. Eden Crow also finished with nine points and reigned in eight rebounds.

The Lady Tigers will be back in action this Saturday, Nov. 18 as the team travels to Alva, Oklahoma to take on Northwestern Oklahoma State. The conference contest is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
