Alva food bank gears up for the holidays

Louis Garcia, who runs the local food bank, urges the crowd at Friday morning's Chamber of Commerce Community Coffee, to get involved in the food bank, whether through volunteering, donating food, or donating money through the Bank-It program, which matches monetary donations.

On Friday, Nov. 17, Louis Garcia – who manages the local food bank – spoke to the crowd attending the Alva Chamber of Commerce's monthly Community Coffee about how folks can get involved in feeding hungry families in the area.

The Alva Regional Food Bank is a ministry of the Alva Wesleyan Church.

"We've been open for seven years now," said Garcia, noting that people still tell him they've only recently heard about the food bank.

The Alva food bank buys food from the Regional Food Bank and makes up boxes of food and other supplies to distribute to local families in need.
