Woods County commissioners elect officers

January 12, 2018

The first order of business on the Woods County commissioners' agenda Monday morning was to elect officers of their group. John Smiley made a motion to keep the officers “as is.” David Hamil seconded the motion and the question passed unanimously. Randy McMurphy will remain as chairman and John Smiley as vice-chairman.

John Smiley made a motion to approve the following SIM gas road-crossing permits in his district.

D3 16-24-13 9-24-13 SemGas Gas $500

D3 4-24-13 33-25-13 SemGas Gas $500

• Court Clerk Office balance: $256,290.40

• Election Board balance: $5,501.90

• Health Department collections: $60.32

• Treasurer's Office balance: $129,126.65

The fair board is scheduled for an election on Jan. 31. The voting will take place at each county shed. Members that are up for re-election:

• Craig Schafer – District 1

• Brodie Bush – District 2

• Ronnie Pitts – District 3

The filing period is Jan. 22–26 at the Woods County Election Board in the Professional Building across from City Hall.

The remaining monies of $154,448.42 in the CBRI account were voted to be split between each county commission district. District 1 received $43,182.29, District 2 received $63,169.24 and District 3 received $48,096.89.

Next, the commissioners voted to rescind their resolution declaring an intent to participate in a Tax Increment District voted on Dec. 4, 2017, for the Alva Arena Project. They explained the legal wording wasn't quite correct and they voted a new resolution that gives the county more say in selecting committee members.

They also passed a Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Alva and Woods County regarding the creation of a joint project plan and tax increment district for the Alva Arena Project.

Several pieces of equipment were declared surplus so they can be traded in on new equipment: There were three rotary mowers and two John Deere Tractors from District 1, and two old tractors for two new tractors for District 3.

Bids will be solicited through newspaper advertising for two Chevy C60 trucks, one with a dump bed. One is a 1978 model and the other a 1980 model.

No action was taken on an agenda item labeled Duneview Addition plat.

They also continued the interlocal agreement so the Woods County ambulance can travel to any district in the county if needed. This is a five-year renewal of a previous agreement.
