Hillcats Go Cold in 70-38 Loss to No. 5 LCU

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State women's basketball team shot only 22 percent falling short in a 70-38 loss to No. 5 Lubbock Christian on Wednesday (Jan. 10) at the Claremore Expo Center. The Hillcats dropped to 4-10 overall and 0-3 in the Heartland Conference, while the Lady Chaps moved to 15-1 and 4-0.
The Hillcats started the game hot, hitting their first two baskets for early advantage. Lindsey Byfield knocked down a jumper in the opening seconds, and Desiree Nelson connected on a 3-pointer for a 5-2 RSU lead in the first two minutes of the game. Two free throws by Nikola Nedoroscikova gave RSU its largest advantage of the game at 7-2 with 7:37 left in the first period.
Darian Jackson put in a 3-pointer for a 10-6 margin at the 4:38 mark of the first period. The Cats started the game shooting 3-of-6 from the floor.
The Lady Chaps ended the first period with a 12-0 run to take an 18-10 lead after 10 minutes. LCU extended the advantage to 32-16 at the half.
After starting the game by hitting 3-of-6 shots, RSU finished the first half going 1-of-17. RSU went 4-of-23 from the field in the first half for 17.4 percent.
RSU got as close as 14 points after another 3 from Nelson midway through the third period, but the Lady Chaps pulled away en route to the 70-38 victory.
Lauren Schuldt totaled a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds, but shot only 1-of-14 from the field with her only basket coming late in the contest. The junior forward went 8-of-10 shooting from the free throw line. RSU finished 11-for-50 from the field, including 6-of-41 (14.6 percent) on two-point field goals. The Cats hit 5-of-9 3-pointers for 55.6 percent.
LCU totaled four Lady Chaps in double figures with Caitlyn Cunyus scoring a game-high 14 points. Tess Bruffey posted a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds and added five blocks, three assists and two steals. LCU shot 41.5 percent (27-65) from the field.
