Convicted felon charged in gun possession

A man from Capron told law enforcement he thought the prohibition on a felon owning a gun didn’t apply to long guns.

Monty Eugene Long, 44, of Capron was charged Jan. 10 with possession of firearm after former felony conviction. The crime is punishable by imprisonment for one to ten years.

According to court papers, on Oct. 17 Waynoka Police Chief Ted Woodhead was contacted by the Gloss Mountain Gun Store in Waynoka. He was told Long had come into the store with a bolt action rifle and wanted a scope for it. The store clerk asked Long if he was a felon, and he said yes but non-violent. He boug...
