First GED graduation of 2018 at BJCC

The BJCC commencement speaker told the story of Derek Redmond, the man who never gave up in finishing an Olympics 400 meter event.

Friends and relatives watched as about 51 GED graduates at Bill Johnson Correctional Center marched to the traditional "Pomp and Circumstance" music Friday morning for commencement exercises in the Benson Center at the chapel. The program began with an invocation from First Presbyterian minister Sarah Chivington-Buck. Next, Warden Becky Guffy thanked the visitors for making the long trip to Alva in the windy and very cold weather. She then congratulated the GED graduates for their achievement.
