BJCC Valedictorian Reed Orwell

BJCC Valedictorian Reed Otwell started his remarks by thanking the education staff for all the time and effort they give to their students. Next, he congratulated his fellow classmates for achieving a vital goal that will improve their chances of success "if we all live our lives honestly."

Otwell said, "If you had told me two years ago I would be wearing a cap and gown and giving a valedictorian speech, I would have laughed in your face. But throughout my time at this facility, I have had plenty of time to reflect on my mistakes and play it to the future.

"I believe this is the foundation of knowledge so that when we go back into the world and rebuild our new lives, I believe this is the beginning of a brighter future," he said.

When Greg Lyon returned to the podium, he said that in his five and one-half years at BJCC, observing 1,500 graduates, Otwell scored the highest score a BJCC student ever has on the GED.
