ADA, Okla. — For the first time since joining the Great American Conference, Southern Nazarene has now won back-to-back conference games by at least 20 points with a 70-47 win over East Central on Saturday afternoon.
The last time the Crimson Storm (7-6, 5-4 GAC) won back-to-back games by at least 20 points was in the 2014-15 season with wins over York and St. Gregory's. Following up Thursday night's 76-54 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State, the Storm took it to the Tigers (4-8, 3-5 GAC) from the opening tip.
After holding the Rangers to just 25 percent shooting from the field Thursday night, SNU's defense was stifling once again on Saturday as they held ECU to a season-low 21.7 percent from the field. East Central attempted 35 three-pointers, and only made five of them. The Storm shot 47.9 percent from the floor, and made seven of their 18 three-point attempts.
Adrienne Berry recorded her first double-double of the season, as the junior scored a game-high 22 points and 10 rebounds. She went 7-for-17 from the floor, and now has four-straight games of making at least three triples, as she was 3-for-9 from downtown. Sidney Carolina chipped in 13 points and added nine rebounds, and shot 6-for-9 from the floor. Abby Niehues had another dominant defensive performance as the freshman blocked five shots while adding nine points and five rebounds. Niehues is now averaging 4.5 blocks in her last four games.
SNU out-rebounded ECU 51-31 for the game, as the Storm led the whole way right from the opening tip for the second-straight game. They dished out 17 assists, despite turning the ball over 26 times for the game.
For the fourth-straight game, Southern Nazarene scored at least 20 points in the first quarter, as it outscored East Central 21-9 in the period. SNU extended their lead to 36-16 in the second quarter, as they took a 42-21 lead into halftime. The Storm made all seven of their team's total three-pointers in the first half, while also shooting 52 percent from the field. ECU shot just 18.5 percent from the field in the first half.
The Tigers were never able to cut anything off the Storm lead in the third quarter, as SNU took a 54-32 lead into the final period. ECU fired 21 threes in the second half to try and get themselves back in the game, but only made three of them as the Crimson Storm cruised to its fourth win in its last five games.
