MESQUITE, Texas – The Lady Mulerider Softball team swept day one of its scheduled split-doubleheader at the North Texas Softball Bash on Friday after rallying to a 6-3 victory in game one against Texas A&M-Kingsville followed by a rule-rule victory in game two against UT-Permian Basin in five innings, 9-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)

Texas A&M-Kingsville got on the board first with a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as a result of a lead-off single that later scored off of an RBI double in the right-center field gap.

The Javelinas struck again in the third inning after scoring a pair of runs on a pair of hits in the frame to extend their lead out to 3-0 over SAU.

The Lady Mulerider offense retaliated in the sixth inning and doubled the Javelinas' 3-run lead after scattering four hits in the frame to take a 6-3 lead over TAMUK.

That inning was jump-started courtesy of a lead-off single to center field from Faith Otts who was then relieved at first base by pinch runner Taylor Strickland.

Rachel Miller wore a pitch to reach first base in her at-bat that allowed Strickland to advance to second where she would score the first run for SAU on Kiara Bonner's single down the right field line, 1-3 TAMUK.

Brooke Goad's 3-run blast over the center field wall would give the Lady Muleriders the lead in that inning, 4-3, and SAU loaded the bases after that where they would eventually tack on another pair of runs to jump out to their aforementioned 6-3 lead.

The Lady Muleriders held on to that lead for the final two innings of play and secured the win, 6-3, over the Javelinas.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)

SAU scored first in the bottom of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead.

Back-to-back hits from Marina Duran and Otts set up that inning for SAU to later score on an RBI double in the right-center field gap off the bat of Sarah Pitre and a sacrifice fly from Miller, 2-0 SAU.

The Falcons cut that deficit in half in the top of the fourth inning on a solo homerun to make it 2-1, SAU.

The Lady Mulerider offense exploded in the bottom of that frame as they used the long ball and scored six runs to take an 8-1 lead in the game.

Otts lead off that frame with a solo blast to left center and Maeson Grace followed her up with a single up the middle before Pitre left the yard a batter later to make it 5-1, SAU.

Hallie Saintignan recorded her first career hit in her freshman debut in that frame and later scored on Goad's 2-RBI bomb to center field that brought SAU's advantage to 7-1 and Jill Roye would come to the plate next and stroke a pitch over the right field wall that added to the Lady Mulerider advantage, 8-1.

SAU would establish the win in the bottom of the fifth after Pitre connected with a walk-off solo blast to left field that ended the game in run-rule fashion for the Lady Muleriders at a 9-1 final decision.
