ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Tigers baseball team dropped a pair of games on Sunday afternoon to Nebraska-Kearney 13-7 and Arkansas Fort Smith 5-3.

With the two losses on Sunday afternoon, the Tigers baseball team is currently riding a four game losing streak into the second full week of the college baseball season.

Game 1: Nebraska-Kearney 13, Ouachita 7

Luke Scaggs (Frisco, Texas) got off to a rough start in the top of the first inning as Nebraska-Kearney (2-4) batted around. When it was all said and done, the Lopers had four runs off two hits.

Scaggs settled down the next few innings to keep the Tigers within striking distance. In the bottom of the third inning, the Tiger offense roared to life.

Kord Offenbacker (Springdale, Ark.) leadoff the inning with a four-pitch walk, he later advanced to second base on a pass ball. Jakahari Howell (Arkadelphia, Ark.) extended his hitting streak to seven games with an RBI single up the middle.

Ty Owens (El Dorado, Ark.) came up next and tripled right center field to score Howell and bring the score to 4-2. Two batters later Preston Speers (McKinney, Texas) hit an RBI single up the middle for the Tigers third run of the inning.

The fourth run of the inning was a scored on a wild play. Tyler Riebock (Rockwall, Texas) struck out swinging but Lopers catcher Will Olson saw the pitch bounce off his leg guard, allowing Kyle Alexander (Conway, Ark.) to score the tying run.

In the top half of the fifth inning, the Lopers lit up the Tigers pitching staff. Nebraska-Kearney scored eight runs, off six hits. Ouachita's defense also committed three errors in the inning.

There was no action in innings five through seven. In the bottom half of the eighth inning Riebock hit his second homerun of the season. This time it was a three-run dinger to right field to make the score 12-7.

The Lopers tacked on another run in the ninth to finish the scoring for both teams.

Howell finished the game going 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI; Riebock ended the game going 1-for-3 with 4 RBI's.

Scaggs picks up his first loss of the season. Scaggs pitched three innings and allowed seven earned runs on eight hits.

Peyton Pocock picked up the victory with 4.0 innings of shutout baseball.

GAME 2: Fort Smith 5, Ouachita 3

The first three innings of the contest were relatively routine for both Ouachita (2-6) and Arkansas-Fort Smith (6-0).

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the offense came alive for the Tigers as they scored three runs off five hits. Alexander and Cade McBride (Prosper, Texas) started out the inning with consecutive base hits to the outfield.

White laid down what was supposed to be a sacrifice bunt but the Lions third baseman threw the ball away, allowing Alexander to score the first run of the contest. Riebock hit a 3-2 fastball into center field for an RBI single to bring the Tigers lead to 2-0. Logan Huneycott (Arkadelphia, Ark.) ended the scoring for the Tigers with an RBI single to right field.

Adam Bahloul (Maumelle, Ark.) pitched a gem of a game going 6.2 innings, allowing 1 run off 2 hits. Bahloul reached his pitch count limit and was pulled after giving up a one out single.

Noah Fowler (Little Rock, Ark.) came into the game and could not find command of his pitches. The freshman gave up 3 runs off of two hits and committed an error in 0.2 innings pitched.

The first batter that Fowler faced singled but then advanced all the way to third on a throwing error by the first year pitcher. One batter later and Lions were within a run after Brennan Dooly doubled to center.

Dooly came around to score on a sacrifice fly to right field the run tied the game at 3-3. The Lions then scored the go ahead run in untraditional fashion. With runners at the corner and two outs in the inning, the runner at first took off for second. Fowler threw over as the runner on third bolted for home. The runner at first was eventually retired 3-4-6 but not before the go ahead run had come across home plate.

Fort Smith tacked on an extra run in the top of the eighth inning. Jordan Lawrence pitched the final 5 innings for the Lions and shutout the Tigers in the process. Lawrence gave up one hit while striking out 10 in relief.

Ouachita will look to break their recent slump against Lyon on Tuesday afternoon at Rab Rodgers field. First-pitch is set for 2 p.m.
