Irene worked as a domestic housekeeper for various Woodward residents, until her retirement in 1986. She was a member of Elm Street Baptist Church. Irene's friends and family often referred to her home as a "doll's house," because she was known for her meticulous care of her home and personal appearance. She was a friendly and fun loving person who loved dolls, delicate figurines, needlework, crafts, and colorful flowers. Her beautiful yard won several awards.
