Fee waivers, new union negotiator on council agenda

February 18, 2018

The President’s Day holiday on Monday will move the Alva City Council meeting to Tuesday, Feb. 20. The council will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers of the municipal building.

After hearing reports from various board and committee meetings, the council will hear from the mayor and the city business manager.

The First United Methodist Church of Alva has asked the city to waive the construction permit fees and solid waste roll off service fees on their construction of a home for foster children being built at 1741 Noble St. The council will discuss and vote on granting a waiver.

Mayor Kelly Parker has recommended some changes to a section of the city’s employee handbook titled “Recording Your Time.” There will be discussion and a vote on the revision.

At the last council meeting, members Randy Stelling and Bryce Benson were appointed to serve as city representatives in negotiations with the firefighters’ union contract. Neither of the men were present at that meeting. Benson has informed the council he can’t serve in that capacity this year. A vote will be held to appoint Mary Hamilton instead.

The council will hear remarks and inquiries from members of the public present at the meeting with a limit of two minutes per speaker. Council members will also be given the opportunity to speak on topics not listed on the agenda.

The Alva Utility Authority meeting will follow. On that agenda are items to declare a 1984 Chevrolet C30 as surplus and to purchase a one ton pickup with a dump bed for the water-wastewater department not to exceed $48,000.

The trustees will also discuss and vote on a change order in the amount of $85,775.34 for the Young Street Tank Farm Construction Project.

The Alva Economic Development Authority will meet following the utility authority. That agenda contains only routine items.
