Lady Bulldogs Win Streak Halted at East Central

February 18, 2018

ADA, Okla. – The No. 7/5-ranked SWOSU Lady Bulldogs saw their 15-game winning streak – the program's longest of the NCAA era – snapped on Saturday at the hands of East Central by a score of 76-66.

SWOSU started the game well, building an 11-4 lead less than three minutes into the game before East Central got going offensively and hit four three-pointers in the quarter to take a 26-18 lead after one period. The Tigers continued to milk the clock and hit timely shots, but a late three-pointer from Savannah Gray kept the score in single digits at the break with SWOSU trailing 43-36.

Early in the second half, SWOSU cut the deficit to two points on a three-pointer from Hayden Priddy made the score 45-43. ECU had an answer, however, with three-pointers on three consecutive possessions to run the lead back to 54-45. The Lady Dawgs trialed 59-48 late in the third quarter, but closed on a 6-0 run to get within five at the end of the quarter after Bethany Franks beat the buzzer with a short jump shot.

Down the stretch, the Lady Bulldogs offense sputtered as they hit just 4-of-21 field goal attempts in the fourth quarter, including several good looks that went in-and-out. On the flip side, East Central controlled the tempo offensively and attempted just nine shots in the fourth quarter – making four – and hitting 7-of-8 free throws to hold off SWOSU's final attempts.

SWOSU was led by 19 points from Hayden Priddy, who also had three steals while playing all 40 minutes. Bethany Franks recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 12 points and 16 rebounds, helping SWOSU outrebound East Central 41-23 – including a 21-2 advantage on the offensive glass that resulted in just nine second-chance points. Tyra Aska scored 12 points and Hailey Tucker added 11 with seven rebounds.

The defeat is just the second of the season for the Lady Bulldogs, who fall to 23-2 on the year but maintain a two-game lead on the Great American Conference race with a league mark of 18-1. SWOSU will play three games on the final week of the regular season, beginning on Monday evening in Alva against Northwestern Oklahoma State.
