Reddies Golf Wins St. Mary's Rattler Invitational

Henderson State posted a second round team score of even-par 288 to win the St. Mary's Rattler Invitational, Tuesday in San Antonio, Texas.

In the first tournament of the spring, Henderson began the second round in third-place after a score of 302 on Monday. The second round was halted late Monday due to lightening. The 16-team field returned to the course on Tuesday morning to complete the round, with the third and final round cancelled due to poor weather conditions.

The score of 288 tied for the best round of the tournament with Henderson having a final score of 590, one stroke better than St. Mary's.

Trey DePriest led Henderson with rounds of 74 and 71 to tie for third. The freshman from Monette, Ark. had 23 pars and six birdies during the event including three straight birdies in the opening round.

Mitchell Ford finished tied for fifth-place carding a 74 and 72 on the par 72, 6,892-yard Dominion Country Club course. The sophomore from Little Rock had three birdies in the final round and six for the tournament along with 22 pars.

After an opening round of 77, Nick Shapiro posted the best individual round for the Reddies with a 70 to finish tied for ninth-place. The round included four birdies with the sophomore from Plano, Texas having six for the tournament along with 22 pars.

\Kevin Boutier had a 36-hole total of 152 with rounds of 77 and 75 to finish tied for 29th. Boutier, a junior from Montrouge, France, led Henderson with seven birdies and was 5-under par in par 5 scoring.

Christian Woods bettered his open round score by seven strokes carding an 85 and 78 to tie for 77th-place. In round two, the junior from Summerville, South Carolina had four birdies.

Playing as an individual for the Reddies was Francisco Maciel who tied for 29th-place with scores of 81 and 71. A freshman from Queretaro, Mexico also had seven birdies for the 36-hole event.

Henderson beat four teams that are ranked in the Golf Stat top 50 poll including No. 12 Texas A&M-Commerce which placed third with a score of 596.

Western New Mexico finished in fourth-place (602), followed by No. 37 Oklahoma Christian (603) and No. 41 St. Edwards (605).

Midwestern State finished the event in seventh-place (609), while Northeastern State placed eighth (610), Texas A&M International ninth (611), West Texas A&M 10th (612), Cameron 11th (613), and Lubbock Christian 12th (617).

Southwestern Oklahoma of the Great American Conference placed 13th (619), while No. 31 Regis was 14th (620), Dallas Baptist 15th (622), and Newman rounding out the field in 16th (628).

Henderson will next play in the Dave Falconer Invitational March 12 and 13 at the Chamberlyne Country Club in Russellville, Ark.
