Burlington looks towards the Gold Ball

Basketball playoffs started Feb. 9 with Burlington hosting the district games. The Burlington Elks played on Friday the 9th against Shidler. The Elks came out on top with a final score of 73-47.They advanced to the championship game on Saturday the 10th along with the Burlington Lady Elks. The Elks and Lady Elks were both District Champions defeating the Medford Cardinals. The Elks played an exciting game, coming out on top in double overtime 75-69.

After the games, the boys' and girls' teams participated in cutting down each of the nets and getting to keep a little piece of it for themselves. This is a long-standing tradition at Burlington.

Both teams went on to Coyle on Feb. 15 to play Covington-Douglas in the Regional Tournament. The Lady Elks beat Covington-Douglas 38-27 and the Elks lost 62-53. The Elks came back out on Friday, beating Mulhall-Orlando 62-53.

Both teams played Saturday, Feb. 17. The girls played Timberlake and the boys played Copan.

The Lady Elks have upset the Timberlake Lady Tigers now four times. In the regional championship game the final score was 42-33, with the Lady Elks taking home the Regional Tournament Championship title. The Elks beat Copan 59-42 to be the Regional Consolation Champs.

Both teams are on their way to the Area Tournament. The Elks will play Thursday, Feb. 22, against the Kinta Eagles and the Lady Elks will play Friday, Feb. 23, against the Varnum Lady Whippets.
