ELSIE LEE DeVORE

JET, Okla. – Graveside service for Elsie Lee DeVore will be Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Pleasant View Cemetery north of Jet with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home Inc. of Cherokee. Viewing will be Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. with family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Online condolences may be made at http://www.lanmanmemorials.com.

Lee was born on September 16, 1935, in Jet and passed from this life on March 11, 2018, in Enid. Lee was raised in the Jet community by her mother, Elsie Marie (Miller) Fischer. Lee worked for the Army Corp of Engineers in maintenance and for Great Salt Plains State Park. Lee met A.D. DeVore while volunteering in the hospital where A.D. was hospitalized after returning from the Korean War. A.D. had enlisted and served in the Army before his high school graduation, so he returned to Jet High School to finish, graduating with Lee in May of 1953. They were married in December of 1953. After marriage A.D. and Lee lived in New Mexico and south Texas, before moving back to Jet. She was a member of the Jet United Methodist Church. She had also attended Vining Church and the Cowboy Church in Byron. Her faith was very important to Lee, and she enjoyed serving in the church in various capacities.

Those who preceded Lee in death include her husband, A.D .; mother, Elsie Marie Fischer; brothers, Glen, Curtis and Sonny Fischer; and sister, Merry Ellen McDowell.

Survivors include her son, Murray DeVore and wife, Jeannette; one grandchild, Joseph DeVore; sister-in-law, Jennie Fischer, and numerous nieces and nephews.
