Reddies Drop Two to Southeastern Saturday in Durant

DURANT, Okla. — Henderson State put up seven hits in both games on Saturday afternoon but those hits translated to just four total runs, as the Reddies dropped both contests and fell in the series 3-1 to Southeastern Oklahoma State.

The Reddies next series begins Friday at Dee White Field in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, when HSU faces off with East Central in a doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m.

GAME ONE: Southeastern Oklahoma 8, Henderson State 2

Southeastern used three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to break open what was a tie game and pull away from Henderson 8-2.

The Reddies got on the board first in the top of the third inning, when Sam Smith singled with the bases loaded to score Brooklynn Jimeson and make it 1-0. The Savage Storm took their first lead with two runs in the bottom half, but in the fifth Henderson knotted things up on an RBI single from Courtney Warren, which scored Madie Green from second, to tie the game at 2-2.

In the bottom of the fifth SOSU began to pull away, as the Savage Storm got a two-run home run and took advantage of three walks to score three runs and open the gap to 5-2. After Henderson went three up and three down in the top half of the sixth, SOSU got going again and scored three runs, on three hits, to extend its lead to 8-2. The Reddies had no answer in the seventh, as they went down in order to give the Savage Storm the win.

Warren, Green and Bethany Allen all had two hits in the game for Henderson, while Warren and Smith each drove in one run. SOSU took advantage of seven walks registered by Reddies' pitchers on the day.

GAME TWO: Southeastern Oklahoma 4, Henderson State 2

Henderson led 2-1 early, but Southeastern scored three unanswered runs and held of the Reddies to win the second game 4-2 and clinch the series.

After SOSU scored a run in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead, Henderson responded in the second when Olivia Trapp singled on a 3-2 count to score Lindsey Williams. A fielding error on the left fielder while playing the ball also allowed Alexis Morton to score from second base and push the Reddies in front 2-1.

The Savage Storm tied things up in the bottom half when Elexis Watson drew a bases loaded-walk to make it 2-2. SOSU then added a run in both the third and fourth innings to grab a 4-2 lead.

The Reddies had opportunities late and got two runners on base in both the fifth and seventh innings. HSU could not score them, however, and came up on the short end of a 4-2 defeat.

Six different Reddies had hits on the afternoon, including Trapp, who led the team by going 2 for 3 at the plate.
